Numbers Not Names

Friends, I will be traveling this Thursday (3/29) to France to perform the first shows with a new project I am in called Numbers Not Names. We will be playing in the cities of Nancy, Allonnes, Nantes and Paris. I’ve posted a video below of the title track. The full length will be out later this year.

The sound of Numbers Not Names came to record label founder, Stéphane Grégoire
(Ici D’Ailleurs), long before the name or the actual music did, and the musicians he needed to bring that sound to life were all familiar faces, just an email away. Alap Momin AKA Oktopus (Dӓlek), was brought in to add his signature bombastic beats with layers of twisted, psychadelic noise, while Chris Cole (Many Fingers/Third Eye Foundation) along with Jean-Michel Pires (The Married Monk, Bed), laid down a flurry of live drums, electric guitars, synthesizers and just about anything else they could get their hands on, creating a wall of infectious rhythms, and brain-melting sounds that any true headphone-stoner audiophile would climax over. Alexei Moon Casselle AKA Crescent Moon (Kill the Vultures) was the final ingredient to be added to the chaos, owning the frontman role and delving into lucid narratives about the corrupt nature of the man behind the curtain and screaming about skeleton crews on the night train, and whatever else he damn well pleased . The quartet, along with Grégoire, gathered for the first time in a recording studio in Nancy, France in the summer of 2010, and 96 hours later, all the raw tracks had been recorded amidst a haze of smoke, sweat and a palpable urgent energy to document the chemical reaction that was taking place from this unlikely laboratory experiment.

Rest in peace, Daniel Levy.

I just received word that a friend and fellow Mpls musician, Adam Levy has recently lost his son Daniel Levy. I’m not going to pretend that I know Daniel, because I never met him. I’m not going to pretend that I know what Adam and his family are experiencing right now because I cannot imagine. As a father myself, the idea of losing my child is absolutely devastating and beyond comprehension. I hope to never know that kind of pain. I just want to take a moment to pay respect to Daniel, whom Stephen (of Kill the Vultures) had been in touch with over the past year and whom we were fortunate enough to collaborate with and whom we were very excited to collaborate extensively with in the future.
Here is a recent t-shirt that Daniel made for us, so I wanted to share some of his work and offer a glimpse at the immense talent and potential that Daniel possessed.

Rest.
